Welcome to the Privateer Alumni Career Network website.

PACnet is an opportunity for University of New Orleans Alumni to connect with current University of New Orleans students
to assist in guiding and mentoring them to career success.

Understanding the PACnet Alumni Mentoring Program

One of the greatest benefits of being part of the University of New Orleans Alumni Association is your connection to thousands of talented leaders in every profession throughout the world.

The PACnet Alumni Mentoring Program is a search tool that allows students and mentors to connect with each other by way of virtual connections online. Both the UNO student and the UNO Alumni Mentor are registered in the Opportunities Database which facilitates the connection.

These Alumni Mentor volunteers have agreed to answer questions related to their career and their career path by way of email and/or online chats. They are not offering jobs, but they can give UNO Students information about how to best approach their career path and what steps are beneficial to creating success.

How UNO Alumni can be involved:

You have a wealth of experience in your particular field and by you sharing that information, you will help students and recent alumni (graduated less than 5 years ago) as they enter the professional workforce.

Just imagine if you could have talked to someone who was in your same shoes as a UNO alum when you were about to graduate. Ask them questions. Get the inside scoop on what it's like to be in the "Real World." This is what this programs hopes to do.

If you want to sign-up and learn more, please visit the "Become a Mentor" page

What it can do for current UNO Students:

Most people will use the PACnet Alumni Mentoring Program to find someone to talk to about what it's like to work in a particular field, industry, firm, or city. In addition, students can benefit through other areas in the program as well:

  • Are you interested in investigating a particular field and just want to ask questions to a professional working in the job (and not just a recruiter)?
  • Are you looking for an internship or a job shadowing opportunity? Many mentors offer these opportunities to come to their office to just watch the environment for a few hours or a whole day. Even those who don't offer internships can often suggest places to search for them.
  • Are you wondering what kinds of jobs are available for people in your field of study? Mentors working in a field can assist with suggestions of where you can start looking.

If you are a student and want to search for Mentors, you must first be registered with the Counseling and Career Center to access the system.

What it can do for recent UNO Alumni:

If you are a recent UNO alum, you may find this program valuable as you start to establish your career. In some cases, by talking to a mentor, you have a better chance of being successful in a job interview or even job search:

  • You may be interviewing with a company and want to get an insider perspective on what is important to discuss in the interview;
  • You may be seeking a promotion or change in jobs and want to get the opinion of someone with more experience in the field;
  • You are thinking about a career change and want to investigate some new fields of work.

The PACnet Mentoring Program is free to current UNO students and current members of the UNO Alumni Association.

If you are a recent UNO alum and want to search for Mentors, you must first be registered with the Counseling and Career Center to access the system.
